There was a war around 1840 between the  Maori and the french.
In the 1805 a chief called te pahi from the bay of islands was invited to visit the governor of new south wales in Sydney. Both men presented each other with gifts as a sing of their friendship.
Maori also worked as sailors at Sydney’s port Jackson there same of them met the  reverend samuel.
